On August 8th, the English Premier League begins their 2015-2016 season with a full slate of matches. As the world’s most popular league starts its season, DraftKings is adding an impressive lineup of daily fantasy sports soccer contests.
As the new EPL season approaches, Yahoo is also looking to bring daily fantasy soccer contests to customers with a recent partnership.
Day One of English Premier League DFS Contests at DraftKings
DraftKings is celebrating the start of the English Premier League with a $40,000 Kickoff Special with $40,000 in guarantee prizes. Players can enter for $20 and DraftKings is awarding $10,000 to first place. Participants must have their picks in for this contest by 10:00 AM ET on August 8th and select players from the five matches.
Bournemouth vs Aston Villa (10 AM ET)
Norwich City vs Crystal Palace (10 AM ET)
Everton vs Watford (10 AM ET)
Leicester City vs Sunderland (10 AM ET)
Chelsea vs Swansea City (12:30 PM ET)
The early game, Manchester United vs Tottenham, is not included in the $40,000 Kick-Off Special and most other guaranteed contests but there are head to head, other smaller leagues running all day.
The largest GPP tournaments for the first day of the English Premier League are as follows:
$40K EPL Kick-Off Special [$10,000 to 1st!], $20 entry – 10:00 AM ET
$10k $10k Striker [$10,000 Guaranteed], $3 entry – 10:00 AM ET
$3k Derby [$3,000 Guaranteed], $9 entry – 10:00 AM ET
$1k Step Over [$1,000 Guaranteed], $1 entry – 10:00 AM ET
In addition to EPL contests, DraftKings features a selection of daily MLS contests. DraftKings competitor FanDuel does not currently have soccer contests up in the lobby.
Yahoo Adds Daily Fantasy Soccer
While DraftKings is already offering English Premier league daily fantasy sports contests, others are looking to add the games this fall.
According to Forbes, Yahoo has partnered with Isle of Man-based Mondogoal to provide daily fantasy soccer contests. It is a part of a broader push to expand their reach overseas and to compete with DraftKings as they also look to expand beyond the United States.
Mondogoal is a provider of soccer daily fantasy sports contests starting at £2. The deal has no upfront costs but would call for Yahoo to receive a share of revenue for players that sign-up from Yahoo to Mondogoal, which is where the games will be hosted and operated. Yahoo will maintain some control in branding and data sharing, but most of the operations will be managed by Mondogoal.
The move is seen as a way to avoid having to apply for a UK license to expand operations outside of the United states. Last month DraftKings applied for a UK remote gambling license.
