DraftKings announced today via a statement that they have partnered with NASCAR and NASCAR Digital Media as an “Official Daily Fantasy Sports Partner.” The agreement is for a period of three years, during which DraftKings will hold an exclusive license to develop and launch NASCAR-branded daily fantasy sports games.
Details of the DraftKings/NASCAR Deal
As a DFS exclusive partner with NASCAR, the deal will allow an opportunity for DraftKings to have a competitive advantage over other daily fantasy sports providers, including from top rival and daily fantasy sports leader FanDuel, which thus far has limited their partnerships to professional sports teams.
In addition to DraftKings’ unique opportunity to offer and launch NASCAR-branded DFS games, the deal will also see other major benefits:
- DraftKings will have access to a direct data from NASCAR Digital Media with real-time statistics
- Stats and daily fantasy sports games will be offered on the DraftKings mobile app, which
- NARCAR games featured on DraftKings will allow players and fans the chance to win unique NASCAR prizes and VIP experiences.
Statements from NASCAR and DraftKings
Steve Phelps, NASCAR executive Vice President, stated via the official announcement that engaging with their fans remains a top priority with the deal.
“Pursuing ways to connect with our fans on a daily basis while enhancing their viewing experience has been paramount to NASCAR, and fantasy sports is a core tenet of that strategy. We are committed to growing our fan base, increasing engagement and diversifying our audience and partnering with DraftKings will strongly support all of these efforts.”
Jason Robins, CEO and founder and DraftKings followed:
“We’re thrilled to partner with NASCAR to bring auto racing enthusiasts across the country an unmatched fan experience. We’re always exploring new avenues for innovation and stats from NASCAR Digital Media’s direct data feed that we will provide to our players is another example of DraftKings’ commitment to incorporating new technologies for the benefit of the fan.”
DraftKings has previously signed deals with a variety of professional sports teams and leagues. DraftKings has been more aggressive with deals, while FanDuel has kept their sponsorships primarily to NFL teams and some select NBA teams.
As daily fantasy sports continues to grow and gain more acceptance by the leagues, we will likely see even more of these deals discussed and come to fruition. As a result, we could also see these deals become even more competitive.
