DraftKings debuted the DraftKings Sportsbook in New Jersey on Wednesday evening, marking DraftKings first foray into sports betting and representing the first mobile sportsbook to go live in the United States.
The app is undergoing a bit of a soft launch to start, with only invited players eligible to play. In addition, there is one big caveat — players must be physically located within the state of New Jersey to play.

Frequently Asked Questions
With the DraftKings sportsbook in its infancy, players are voicing a variety of questions of how it will all work. Here we attempt to lay out the frequently asked questions below.
Can I play on the DraftKings Sportsbook app?
You have to be located within the state of New Jersey to use the DraftKings Sportsbook. DraftKings will likely make efforts to move into other states once A) individual states authorize sports betting and B) online sports betting is green-lighted and DraftKings is licensed to operate in the state.
I’m from New Jersey. How do I play during the invite period?
DraftKings Sportsbook in New Jersey will likely be available to all New Jersey residents very soon. But for now, players can download the app and pre-register for an “exclusive invite.”
Who does DraftKings partner with in New Jersey?
DraftKings has partnered with Resorts Casino, which holds a New Jersey gambling license, to offer online sports betting.
When will my state will allow sports betting?
A year ago, the answer to this question was very much an open question. But now that the US Supreme Court has declared federal anti-sports betting law unconstitutional, the floodgates are opening. So far Delaware, Mississippi and New Jersey have joined Nevada in offering sports betting since the decision was handed down. More states will be putting their stamp of approval on sports betting in the coming months and years.
DraftKings encourages players to “Take Action” by contacting lawmakers to lobby them for sports betting in their states.
What types of betting is available in the DraftKings Sportsbook?
Players will be able to make a variety of different types of wagers within the DraftKings Sportsbook including most classic wager types — think spreads, money lines, futures etc — as well as In-Play betting that allows a DraftKings user to wager on games as they are happening.
What is the DraftKings Sportsbook like?
According to Fortune, DraftKings’ sportsbook is on the same playing field as the “sophisticated sportsbooks located in the United Kingdom.”
Among the featured that are live upon launch is an interface that appears to the casual better, early cashouts (cashout before the bet is complete) and the betting of non-sporting events (such as the Home Run Derby). Given DraftKings’ penchant for innovation, we would expect DraftKings to continue this traditional for the sportsbook as well.
Legal Sports Report was able to preview the DraftKings Sportsbook and is a great resource for what the sportsbook actually looks like at launch.
How can players place bets?
DraftKings sportsbook users will be able to place bets on the DraftKings Sportsbook website or through iOS and Android apps.
What changes are in store for DraftKings DFS players?
For players in New Jersey, nothing much changes at this point although we suspect that eventually all DraftKings apps will be fully integrated. But for now there are separate apps for the DraftKings Sportsbook and DraftKings Daily Fantasy Sports.
There is some integration right now. For example, existing users will have the DraftKings Sportsbook app directly linked to their DraftKings account. Players will be able to play DFS or the online sports betting using the same cashier.
