A Reason for FanDuel Expansion

Unlike DraftKings, which offers contests in nearly a dozen sports such as PGA and MMA, FanDuel has previously choose to focus on the four major sports. In not offering additional sports, FanDuel had previously stated they wished to not spread themselves too thin. especially given that 80% of revenues come from football and basketball. In addition to PGA and MMA support, DraftKings also offers English Premier League contests with prize guarantees topping out around $20,000.

With the launch of the FanDuel EPL contests, it’s unclear at this time whether the contests will be merged with those on FanDuel UK. However, indications point to player pools being separated since FanDuel UK EPL contests feature a roster of 11 players, while the roster on FanDuel.com will consist of 8 players.

FanDuel CEO Nigel Eccles voiced the company’s desire to expand its customer base as a big reason for its launch of EPL contests. “Our ultimate goal is for fans of all sports to experience what FanDuel has to offer. As we continue to enhance our core product, we look forward to giving the millions of US soccer fans access to the same game day excitement that bring other sports fans to our platform”

The timing of the FanDuel EPL announcement also comes as negative regulatory action has calmed down and the peak of the daily fantasy football season comes and goes.
