How Close Was the DraftKings Billion Dollar Lineup?

On Sunday, DraftKings held the NFL Billion Dollar Lineup, a contest that could have awarded $1 billion to a lucky daily fantasy football player. Yes, DraftKings would have awarded $1 billion to any player that achieved the feat of drafting the perfect lineup. No, of course it was not hit.

We’re having a bit of fun with it, but the odds of hitting this thing were always astronomical. So how close did the top lineup come to winning $1 billion dollars?

Was the Billion Dollar Lineup Close to Being Hit?

No. The top lineup, which came from XXXCBXXX, generated 198.44 points. His lineup was still some 34 points from being good enough to win the Billion Dollar Lineup. Despite the strong week from the DraftKings player, he still drafted only 3 of 9 of the best possible lineup coming up short on QB, a RB, 2 WR, TE and a Flex position. He took home $500 for his troubles.

One Twitter user noted that the perfect lineup contained 3 rookies and a Detriot Lions stack, which put up 35 against the Arizona Cardinals.

What’s Next for the Billion Dollar Lineup?

A total of 138,341 players entered the contest and even if you didn’t come close to hitting the perfect lineup, DraftKings still awarded $100,000 prizes to players. All players who participated won at least $0.25. Although hitting the big prize was an uphill battle, it was free and it did provide DraftKings players with something to talk about and DraftKings something to promote their brand. Neither is a bad thing.

Although there seem to be no plans to offer the Billion Dollar lineup again at the moment, the Week 1 promotion was an excellent way to get the daily fantasy sports world talking about we love most – daily fantasy sports. A perfect lineup promotion has been run before and we hope to see it back again.
