There are thousands of DFS contest choices each week at DraftKings, just sitting in the lobby waiting for players like you to join. But you don’t have to settle for joining an existing contest — you can also create contests to your own preference.
Why create a contest and once you decide that you should create a contest, how do you do it?
Why Create a Contest?
There are tons of available games at a daily fantasy sports site like DraftKings, so why would you want to create your own?
Play with your friends Creating your own DraftKings contest means that you can set a password and only invite people that you want to join, such as a group of friends. As anybody who has played fantasy sports, crushing your friends feels a little bit sweeter.
Avoiding Sharks – When you create own contests, you are not only setting your own specifications, but you also don’t have to join contests from skilled players whose contests may already be in the lobby. You can set the maximum number of times a player can join one of your contests, limiting your exposure against a single opponent.
Create DraftKings Contest in a Few Steps
Once you have decided that you want to create a contest, its just a short process to get up and running.
First you will want to find the “Create a Contest” link at the top of the lobby as show here (make sure you are signed in).
From this page you will be able to customize your contest, by choosing your sport, slate, and league type. You will be able to create a contest at any sport and slate available on DraftKings. When selecting a contest type, you will only be able to choose Head to Head or League contest.
Types of Contests You Can Create at DraftKings
Head to Head
When creating a head to head league, you can choose the buy-in of the contest as well as how many contests you want to create. You are allowed to create and post up to 50 unfilled contests per sport/time and entry fee. If your contests fill, you can create even more.
Players creating a head to head league will be given the choice of $0, $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, $109, $215, $530, $1060, $5300 and $10600.
For head to head contests, you can limit the number of times a player can join your contest.
Creating a league is a bit different. Instead of being able to create multiple head to contests at a time, you can only create 1 league contest at a time. You do get a choice of adjusting the number of entries from 3 players up to 100. Like head to head contests, you have a choice of a buy-in of $0 to $10600. Depending on the size of the contest, you can chose to pay by Winner Take All, Top 2 Win, Top 3 Win, Top 5 Win or 50/50 (where half of the league wins).
By default, all leagues are set as Public leagues, which are posted in the lobby and available for anyone to join. As an alternative, you can set your contests to Private, which will require those that join be invited. Games will NOT be posted in the lobby.
For Private Leagues, you will need to know your friends or particiants DraftKings username or email address. You will be able to email or contact your friends directly from the Create a Contest page at Draftkings. Add a message to your invite and your friends will receive an invite.
Note that if your contests does not fill, those entry fees will be returned to you.
